To underpin our commitment to serve patients in China and Asia-Pacific region, Amgen is now establishing a Research and Development (R&D) facility in Shanghai. The Amgen Asia R&D Center has a Translational Science focus with state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biology and pathology laboratories, designed to discover and develop valuable biomarkers and implement early safety screening activities in support of clinical programs.

Amgen is seeking a scientific staff to successfully implement and conduct immune activation and cell function assays in our discovery toxicology/biomarker laboratory. This position will support Amgen CBSS/Translational Sciences activities in China and the U.S. The successful candidate will interact closely with the Amgen U.S.-based Discovery Toxicology group as well as Pathology and Biomarker groups at Amgen Asia R&D Center.

Responsibilities

·Utilize analytical cytology techniques (e.g., immunofluorescence microscopy, and image analysis) to assess responses of various cell types (particularly immune cells) to therapeutics being developed at Amgen.

·Perform cell culture (cell lines and primary cells) and sample preparation for analysis.

·Perform immunology/antibody based assays (e.g., ELISA, Luminex)

·Develop novel analytical methods to address specific scientific questions.

·Maintain and operate molecular biology equipment (TaqMan machines), FACS and other applicable Luminex and spectrophotometers.

·Keep accurate scientific records and notebook entries, analyzing scientific data, and reporting results back to the team in a consistent and timely manner.

Basic Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree & at least 6 years of directly related experience, or

•Master’s degree & at least 3 years of directly related experience, or

•Ph.D.’s degree with directly related experience

•Appropriate qualifications in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Stem Cell Biology or related field.

•2+ years of experience in analytical cytology (such as, immunofluorescence microscopy, and image analysis).

•Strong cellular and molecular biology expertise including novel immunoassay development, high throughput plate based assays (including automation of sample acquisition and data analyses).

•2 + years of experience in molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid isolation, quantitation, qRT-PCR (Taqman), microarray, and next generation sequencing.

•Able to analyze scientific data and present data in both informal and formal settings.

•Adhere to all corporate and local guidelines and regulations related to compliance and health and safety.

•Display a strong entrepreneurial spirit, in line with Amgen’s culture of innovation and pursuit of scientific excellence.

•Fluent in reading and writing English.

•Excellent collaborative and team-working behaviors.

•Good oral and scientific writing skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

•Proven track of work experience in reputable R&D organization in biopharmaceutical industry.

•Familiarity with FACS platform.

•Knowledge of advanced graphing and statistical software for scientific data presentation and reporting.

•Experience/expertise in additional molecular biology platforms/ techniques including automated nucleic acid isolation, qRT-PCR (TaqMan, microarray, and/or next generation sequencing.

•Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with active prioritization skill.

•Be able to work independently, meet time lines, and adapt to changing priorities.

•Fluent in speaking English.
